The mitochondrion

The mitochondrion is a double-membrane bound organelle. They are known as the powerhouse of the cell because they generate the cell’s energy in the form of adenosine triphosphate ATP). It contains its own DNA (mitochondrial DNA) & divides independently of the cell cycle by simple fission.⠀
