Phenol red in cell culture medium

Some cell culture medium contains phenol red - which gives it the red colour at pH 7.4. It turns yellow when the medium is more acidic & turns pink when it is more alkaline. These colour changes are signs of potential issues like contamination, overgrowth, CO2 level and/or temperature changes – not good for the cells!⠀
