Analytical balance

The analytical balance is designed to measure very small mass in the sub-milligram range! It consists of a draft shield (weighing chamber) to prevent air currents from affecting the measurement. This prevents fluctuations of measurements or loss of samples.⠀

Here are some steps to take note of when using the analytical balance!⠀
1) Ensure the balance is levelled before weighing anything. The position of the bubble in the level indicator indicates whether the balance is levelled. If the balance is levelled, the bubble will remain in the centre of the indicator. If not, level the balance by adjusting the levelling feet, this will bring the bubble back to the centre of the indicator.⠀
2) Close all chamber doors and switch on the analytical balance. Ensure it is zeroed before proceeding to the next step.⠀
3) Place your weighing boat/weighing container in the centre of the balance pan, close all chamber doors & tare the weighing boat to get a direct measurement of your sample.⠀
4) Add the sample to the weighing boat, ensuring no spills on the balance pan, close all chamber doors & record the measurement.⠀
5) Repeat measurement to ensure repeatability.⠀
6) When you are done with the measurements, remove the sample, clean up any spills & close the chamber doors so that dust do not collect. ⠀

Fun fact: the estimated mass of a cell is 1 picogram
